Oil, acrylics and watercolors by Abstract Expressionist Adine Stix (1909 - 1987). Stix was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and studied Fine Arts at Skidmore College. In the 1940s, she moved to Greenwich Village where she and her husband founded The Artist's Gallery which helped launch the careers of many important American artists including Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell and Adolph Gottlieb.

Stix married cowboy Les Sanborn in 1950 and moved to Quail Canyon Ranch in Nevada. Her work was influenced by the constantly changing colors of Lake Pyramid. It was during her years here, when Stix developed her own perspective and style and reached her peak of creativity. In 1959, the film "The Misfits" starring Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift, and Marilyn Monroe was filmed on the Stix Ranch. She used the proceeds from her rental agreement with MGM Studios to build a painting studio on the ranch where many of these abstract pieces were painted.
